The Doppelgänger

Myth/Legend: The Doppelgänger

Origin: Germany

The changes are subtle, barely noticeable at first

quite simple and easy to fall victim to this curse.

A slightly raised brow and less of a smile

small enough shifts for easy denial.

The process can take time to fully manifest

but the curse is forever; permanent and dangerous.

It is your replica with negative intentions

replacing you in an effortless transition.

Once altered, your fate is sealed

your life forever a dark and miserable ordeal.

Check in on your loved ones to ensure they are safe

for the doppelgänger is intent on taking their place. ~ Fam Zsolti

Jinn or Genie?

Mythical Creature: Jinn

Origin: Arabia

The genie offers fame, fortune and wins

they are the commercialised version of Jinn.

The genie was created to serve and appease

granting their masters wishes in threes.

An ancient creature of the Arabian lands

the Jinn hides in plain sight in homes, along mountains and in sand.

Malevolent and mysterious; created from smokeless fire

a demonic spirit with dark desires.

One could be hiding inside your home

just waiting for that moment when you are alone.

The mysterious reflection you glimpsed through the mirror

that shapeless figure near your dresser.

When your skin crawls like a million small louse

there is a strong chance you have a Jinn in your house.

Misty shadows pacing your corridors

bursts of cold air from under the floor.

The Jinn will mess with your soul and your mind

your dreaming and reality will become intertwined.

Unlike the genie who grants happiness and wealth

the Jinn brings darkness; feeding off your mental health. ~ Fam Zsolti

Teke Teke

Myth/Legend: Teke Teke Girl

Origin: Japan

The air clung to the people like a wet cocoon,

heavy and uncomfortable; a typical Tokyo June.

Below in the subway it was classic rush hour,

no one could have predicted the horror thereafter.

As the train pulls in with a clickety clack,

and the teke girl came crawling,

            crawling, crawling,

The teke girl came crawling up the railway track.

A scythe in one hand, with great speed and malice,

half her body is missing; she is vengeful and callous.

What started as a joke took a turn for the worse,

now the city is darkened by that one summer’s curse.

They teased her and mocked her again and again,

til she fell to her death and now seeking revenge.

As summer approaches year after year,

residents grow fearful; they know she is near.

The air which once had everyone giddy for summer,

has grown thick with unease, dark and sombre.

As the train pulls in with a clickety clack,

and the teke girl came crawling,

            crawling, crawling,

The teke girl came crawling up the railway track.

She halves her victims with a quick swift of her scythe,

feeding off their pain as she watches them die.

And now still on a hot summer’s day, when the air clung to the people like a wet cocoon,

heavy and uncomfortable; a typical Tokyo June.

As the train pulls in with a clickety clack,

and the teke girl came crawling,

            crawling, crawling,

The teke girl came crawling up the railway track. ~ Fam Zsolti
